Your Weekly Update from Marceline UMC
Hello Church,
Yesterday was the first of several baptisms that we have coming up! We’re getting younger all the time! With that in mind, there are some things that we have to remember about baptisms.
They are a time of great joy and celebration, but they are also our time to both reaffirm our faith, and recommit ourselves to being a part of their lives and helping them to grow in their faith, and know that they are a part of a larger family. Together we are united in faith.
With that in mind, we remember our own baptisms where we receive the grace that God gives us, we publicly declare that Jesus is Lord and that we have been saved by faith. We also receive the Holy Spirit that leads us and guides each and every day. This isn’t just on an individual level, but also as a community. We are called to a life together, to share in the work of the Spirit with each other, and to receive God’s grace as a family of faith.
Take time this week to reflect on what this means for us as a church. Also, take some time to think through how we can live out this faith that we share, and share it with the generations that are coming behind us.
Below are a couple of links. One is for a copy of the general rules handout that I had the other day, and the other is for a video that talks about the different translations of the Bible. That video is borderline snarky at times, but not intentionally. Its a good explanation of the different translations that we have.
