Hello Church,
This week our fall listening sessions begin! You can sign-up at the link below. We’ve got a couple of them on there now, and will have at least a couple more added by the end of the week. Even if you can’t come to one of the sessions, I’d like to sit down with you and visit. Below the link is a list of the questions that we’ll be talking about. Take a look at them and use them for some time of reflection.
What do you see as the purpose of the church?
In your opinion, what are the most important ministries of the church? What are the least?
How would you describe our church to someone new to our area?
What do you think are the greatest needs of our community?
Over the last 5-6 years, how has our Marceline changed? How has it remained the same?
What is good about our church? What are you worried about?
What do we need to change as a church?
Where do you see God leading us?
Now I need you to respond to another question, and you can do that below. I’m looking at some different options of small groups and studies that we can start. What of these (and you can respond to more than one) would you be interested in, and/or do you know someone you could invite to come with you?
Let me know what you think!! I’m looking forward to the next few weeks and getting to have some more in depth conversations with all of you about where we are going.
A quick update on the little girl, Olivia Robinson, that Hilary asked prayer for yesterday. They have a GoFundMe set up if you’d like to help.
PS: Check the back table in the Sanctuary (or at the end of this email) to see if you left a dish after a meal. What’s left after the next couple of weeks will go to the Rummage Sale
Also, look below for some links to news stories from the larger church.

There’s a couple of pictures this week! One is from the back of the Sanctuary, and the other is just a silly picture, but is a reenactment of one of our UM News stories. Take a look at the end of the email to see them.

Parting Shot
Does anything look familiar? Check the table out on Sunday.
Yes that is a John Wesley bobblehead, and yes that is a little figurine (non-bobblehead variety) of Pope Francis. Both come from my office. I like to think that they are discussing the merits of one of our historic Articles of Religion where Wesley confronts the Catholic Church. I think Wesley and Pope Francis would probably have gotten along very well.
Article XIV — Of Purgatory
The Romish doctrine concerning purgatory, pardon, worshiping, and adoration, as well of images as of relics, and also invocation of saints, is a fond thing, vainly invented, and grounded upon no warrant of Scripture, but repugnant to the Word of God.
