Worship with us this weekend!
We're in the book of Esther, finishing both endings online and in person
Welcome to Worship!
This weekend, both online and in person, we’re at the end of the book of Esther watching how the evil villain is defeated and how the long-tail of evil can be overcome.
Our online worship, is a recording of our previous week's in person worship service. We do that so that we can share in a higher quality of worship together. Even though the service is recorded, Pastor John is down in the comments of the service every weekend.
You can find links to our YouTube Channel for the service, worship music, and a Spotify playlist for more music. You can click on the link to find our previous services too.
You can worship on Facebook, Sunday mornings at 9am, in person at 10:10am, or follow the service below at any time.
What comes next is the order of service for our online worship service.

Call to Worship
I'll say the words in regular type, and please reply with the words in bold
Leader: We often feel like we can't take on the big problems that face our world
People: But God is still at work, and can do what we can't
Leader: We often see problems we want to solve but don't know where to start
People: But God has given us wisdom, if we'll only use it
Leader: We often feel helpless in the face of what we don't understand
People: But God gives us the strength to stand and overcome
Opening Prayer
Holy God, Creator of Life, you call us out of our dark places, offering us the grace of new life. When we see nothing but hopelessness, you surprise us with the breath of your spirit. Call us out of our complacency and routines, set us free from our self-imposed bonds, and fill us with your spirit of life, compassion, and peace, In the name of Jesus, your anointed one, we pray. Amen.

Prayers, Presence, Gifts, Service, Witness
As people of faith, we share who we are with each other. Below I invite you to share your joys and concerns, your prayer requests, and your offerings. You can use the link below, or in the comments
Share a joy, concern, and/or prayer request
Remember that you can mail in your offerings to:
Marceline UMC
321 N Kansas Ave
Marceline, MO 64658
You can also give online.
Take some time for some personal prayer, and take some time to give. This could be the time when you go online, or you write a check to the church, or when you make that commitment to give in a different way.
After the personal prayer, I'll say a prayer (if you're watching the video), and then join in saying the Lord's Prayer below.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen
Scripture Reading
Our scripture reading for worship is Esther 8:1-6
As you are able, please stand for the reading of God's Word.
1That same day King Ahasuerus gave Queen Esther what Haman the enemy of the Jews owned. Mordecai himself came before the king because Esther had told the king that he was family to her. 2The king took off his royal ring, the one he had removed from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. Esther put Mordecai in charge of what Haman had owned.
3Esther again spoke before the king. She bowed at his feet, wept, and begged him to treat her kindly. She wanted him to overturn the evil plot of Haman the Agagite—his secret plan directed against the Jews. 4The king held out the gold scepter to Esther, and she got up and stood before him. 5She said, “If the king wishes, and if I please him—that is, if the idea seems right to the king, and if he still sees me as a good person—then have people write something to call back the order—the order that put into effect the plan of Haman, Hammedatha the Agagite’s son, that he wrote to destroy the Jews in all the royal provinces. 6How can I bear to watch the terrible evil about to sweep over my people? And how can I bear to watch others destroy my own family?”
Leader: This is the word of God, for the people of God
People: Thanks be to God!
Precious Lord, Take My Hand--UMH 474
Today's Message: Act 4: The First Ending
Here we get the demise of the evil villain Haman, but we also see how evil doesn’t stop with the defeat of the bad guy. We will also have to deal with the long-tail that evil leaves behind.
Leave it There--UMH 522
Benediction
Lord send us out into a world that can know that villain's can be conquered and evil overcome. Help us to be the ones that help to pick up the pieces after the destruction that takes place, and to put them back into place in your care. Lead us out to be your people in a world that needs you beyond all else that it faces. Let us go in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
